"In 2003 my dear husband lost his battle with cancer and passed, leaving my teenage daughter and me alone.
Many people sent flowers and I took most home with me to enjoy. At night I would often just stare at these beautiful flowers, a bit like fire-gazing. Although thoughts, memories, and feelings, both happy and sad, would fill my being, these beautiful flowers somehow offered me grounding and peace.
I began to really notice their beauty, shape, smell and individuality, and how they engaged my senses. I then began to mix the arrangements according to colour, size, texture, touch and what pleased me to look at, and as a result I found this experience not only calming but it also enhanced in me a lovely reassurance of connectedness with nature.
Invariably next time I would change everything around creating new imagery. Although this happened quite often, it brought me great peace and stillness, and yes the flowers did make me smile.
I was reminded by the flowers that there are seasons, a cycle of life involving death, birth and growth and we are a part in this amazing cycle. It reminded me to cherish the “here and now” as it will change with or without my permission.
Audrey, I feel sure your beautiful floral creations will continue to be welcomed, enjoyed, and create many more smiles yet to come."
